  • my cottage

since i mentioned my neighborhood, i dug out a few pics of my teeny house for ya'.  i took these last spring. the coolest thing about my yard are my trees in my front yard.  you can see 2 pines, but the real jems are my 4 holly trees.  i have 2 males, and 2 females (yea, male and female, weird, huh?) so i get berries on 2 of them.  the florists will pay for bunches of branches at Christmas time.  you can see one right in the middle of the picture.  they are pretty rare to be so old and tall, and i'm told they are worth a lot of $$$.  i'm just not sure how you capitalize on a valuable tree?!

    this is my little porch:

and this is my favorite street. the trees are soooo tall, and are a big canopy over the road.  this was last fall:

  • here comes the Prez!

i live in a little village called edgeworth which is in an area known as Sewickley.  most people have never heard of my town of Sewickley, but the president is coming here today. this is for a big fundraiser. the event will be at a private residence in Sewickley Heights....

you see, Sewickley has a great deal of wealth - VERY old money.  have you ever heard of carnegie mellon university?  well the Carnegie's and the Mellon's live here, kind of in my neighborhood.  the estates are magnificent with stables and several 'homes' for people who work for the estates.  the estate mansions are quite large - to give you some idea, the fund raiser is for 500 people - and like i said the party will be at a private residence.  (you can do the math on that one!)

the thing about old money is that you would never know who has it.  the people in my neighborhood are quite wealthy...  most homes sell for well over $1,000,000, and the estates are well over 8 figures.  i live in the teeniest, tiniest little one-bedroom cottage - over 100 years old - and i'm working on restoring it a bit.  which is how i can live where i do - as my 'weath' is still being earned!!!!  (everyone knows my house because it is exceptioanally small for the area!)  but i do have 10' ceilings - which add to its charm.  i love my neighborhood.  everyone is so friendly and generous and helpful.  i've never lived anywhere else where i knew my neighbors.  whenever i go jogging, i still can't believe that this is my neighborhood.  the homes are absolutely unbeliveable.  the edgeworth club is right at the end of my street.  it's architecture is very typical of the homes here.  if you were driving by, you might think it just was a home - except for the excessive number of tennis courts!!

just a little geography lesson.  i'd love to hear any little 'secrets' about where you live!

  • air conditioning in my shoes

i like to call myself a 'runner'.  the thing is, when it's icy, forget it - i'd kill myelf.  and i cannot bring myself to run on a dred mill - i like to go outside.  well, tonight it's about 25°F outside.  freeeeeezzzzing.  it's weather like this that me shoes feel so weird!!  the mesh is like air conditioning, which is the last thing you need!  i'm ready for some warm weather.

i don't know why i posted this - i must be trying to avoid doing work.

  • what a busy weekend!

we woke up sunday morning, and i made my usually coffee-hot cocolate-whipped cream delicacy.   of course, this is also, xander's favorite thing.  usually, my camera is in the other room when something like this happens, but it was right on the table, so i caught him - red handed, so to speak!

he was sooooo furry, that i spent the rest of the afternoon giving him a haircut, while i was on the phone with my mom, helping her with her new computer 'skilz'.

wouldn't it be nice if a hair cut could make us look like we lost 1/2 our body weight?  sign me  up for that!!  anyway, here's his new "spring look".

i've never really cut his tail... but it got a trim.  it's funny to me how a shih tzu is 'supposed to' look:

      and there's xander:

i love the 'puppy cut'. i got it done once by a pro - but his hair grows so fast, i have to do it myself, or take out another mortgage.  i just shave him down.  this process takes about 4 hours, after which, he gets a bath.

    too funny.

  • Style Gallery update

well i finally got around to updating our Style Gallery!  i love the music by frou frou.  we had such wonderful weddings this past year!

watching our website traffic, i know most people go to the 'latest work' section of our site.  the problem is that these are PROOFS!  i haven't done anything to the images!  so i figured i'd put some post-production stuff up.  i've also rev'ed up my post wedding processing, and i hope to be able to get my proofs almost perfect before posting or printing.  a few more tests...

once i have it figured out, i'll try to figure out how to share the actions.  they should help anyone shooting Canon RAW (we shoot the 20D's) i think it should work with anything that's in need of sharpening and saturation.

  • here's the baby album! check it out!

  • spring is almost here - and so much to do!

wow!  st. patrick's day, already!  so much going on...

we have two albums out being printed and bound, and we hope to have them back before 'vacation', but it looks like they might not make it.

i'm going to wppi at the beginning of april for a few days, while brenda will be in sunny florida for 2 weeks!

and then a very exciting class at the Sewickley Library for anyone who wants to get the most out of their digital camera!  i think that link will take you to it.  anyway, april 18th and 25th at the FABULOUS Sewickley Library.  this is such a beautiful building that we have even done some engagement photographs and portraits here.  This library is so dynamic!  So many classes and events, it's unbelievable!  we even shot a tango group here!  i'll have to dig out some pics.

so there's a little update.  just getting the latest baby album ready to load, so i'll post that soon, too!  so much to do.

and since i'm at 'work' now, i'll give a titanium update....  i've been working on a medical alloy, mostly.  (Ti-6Al-7Nb or ti6/7) it's becoming more and more popular because some feel the niobium has better compatibilty (i don't see it).  Ti-6Al-4V ELI is still the most common for medical. there is a show on tv - i think it's called Miracle Workers, and they've done a few surgeries using titanium implants.  it probably came from my plant, as we are the biggest supplier to the medical industry (over 90%).  kind of nice to think about.  wow - we have a boring website.  ok, enough of that.

that's all i have. tonight i'll be chasing the dog around the house with scissors and clippers for his spring 'makeover'. i hope to get some pics, but it's very difficult to document that event!
