  • ALOHA Everyone!

You might ask, ‘where do you get married when you live in Hawaii?’  Well, PITTSBURGH, of course!  Jen and Jason live in Maui, and we had the absolute pleasure of photographing their wedding this weekend!  WOW!  What a fabulous day.  The weather was wonderful, the food was fabulous and the flowers were sensational!  We’d like to share a few photographs from our latest work!

Oh! And did we mention, the couple is HAUT!

  • Great time at Phipps!

Phipps Conseravatory was our location of choice yesterday for Jen and Jason.  This building in the background may look familiar - it's been in tons of movies.  It's the flower gardens in Pittsburgh.  Lots more to come - today we're spending the evening with the entire wedding party at Kennywood - even if it rains!  And we're expecting the skies to clear for tomorrow's wedding.

  • Meet two great photographers - and beautiful to boot!

  • record gas mileage!!

ok.  gas prices make me mean.  BUT the engineer in me decided to see what i could do to make the best of it - so i did an experiment.....

my car has 117,000 miles on it (it's a honda crv) and i LOVE it - and it's PAID for!! so don't laugh.  ANYWAY... i've always been one to keep it properly maintained.  so, i got a TUNE UP, and made sure the TIRES WERE PROPERLY INFLATED - and then i added 2 lbs. of air (i don't recommend this, however, it seems to be in the safe range for my tires).  and then, since i do so much long distance driving, i SLOWED DOWN A LITTLE.  the result???  i increased my gas mileage by 17%!!!!!

it seems that every car has a 'native speed'.  (that's what i call it)  that it wants to run at. for my car, it seems to be about 63 miles/hour.  every car/truck is different, but you can find yours by watching the tachometer - somewhere between 2000 and 2500 rpm.  if you go faster, you burn more gas - slower, doesn't help.  another way to tell is, if you are on the highway, and you come to a grade, and the car has to drop out of overdrive to maintain it's speed... you're going too fast. (set the cruise to use this method).  the key is, slow down a little.  i used to travel about 65-75mi/hr - especially on the way HOME from work. now, i go 63mi/hr.  it has added no significant time to my 32 mile commute (each way), but i only used 1 tank of gas last week!!!  this means i will (on average) save about $40/ month.

i set a record of 393 miles on one tank!!  usually, i was on fumes after about 320 miles.  and i could have gone farther, but that light came on, and i've never seen even CLOSE to that number of miles on one tank!!!  now, i'm goign for a new record.

try it!! tune up, check your tires, and slow down.  see what happens!!  they say if people reduced their fuel consumption by 3%, the oil companies would be in trouble. hmmmmmmmmm.....

ok - now pass it on!
