  • freedom of RELIGION!

    070601bellissima0568

i'm not actually FROM pittsburgh, but i've been here for about 20 years - so i'm now 'from the 'burgh'...   sunday there is a very important game - practially a holy day of obligation.  people who are not from pittsburgh, or who have not spent time here may not understand, but steeler football is a RELIGION.  when big ben was in his motorcycle accident, people tailgated in the parking lot outside of his hospital room   ... the city shuts down during a game and when they became super bowl champs it was practally a new holiday.

     rehearsal

since i do not have a tv, i have to listen to the games on the radio - it's just not the same.  i'm not a huge fan, but i do cheer the steelers.  the Rooneys (the owners) are a great family, and the moral code of the steelers seems to transcend the NFL - something other teams don't seem to understand.  it's all part of the religion.

i am going to watch the game this weekend.  i think the patriots are a great team - they are undefeated after all, so how can that be disputed.  BUT they are also cheaters.  plain and simple.  and no one likes a cheater.  i've decided to find a tv and watch this game.  i think the steelers will be victorious.  (even if they are 14 point underdogs - are you kidding???? 14 points!!!!!!  wow. i wish i could fly to vegas for this one.)

we've photographed a lot of terrible towels this year - at weddings - in formal photographs.  if you don't understand, i can't explain...  GO STEELERS!!!

  • merry Christmas to... ME!

well, it seems EVERYONE has some kind of GPS gizmo.  my sister just got an amazing new car - loaded! - and the GPS in it is terrific.  it's just FUN!  so i decided that with all the weddings and engagement sessions and places that i travel to (that i have no idea how to get to), that i deserve a GPS of some kind.

true to form, i did my homework...  and i do not shop by price.  sure i want a good deal, but i also feel that if i can't afford what i want, then i don't want anything, and i will do without until i can save up for a toy.  and this is a TOY.  after talking with a lot of people who have these gizmos, i decided that the brand for me was GARMINcf-sm    so i started looking at models....    there are lots of good deals out there right now, so i shopped around.  i decided on the Nuvi 360.  51ZB7D2RGSL   the specs were what i was looking for and more.  the satellite found me right away when i turned it on outside and now i just need to sync the bluetooth with my phone to be able to be 'hands-free' when i'm driving.  i found the best deal on AMAZON.  it shipped to me for free, and i received it in 5 days.

of course my favorite feature is that it lists places to eat, if i ask it to! there are places showing up that i didn't even know about!  it makes me want to pack a bag and just start driving ~ what fun!!

i also decided that i'll be recieving my info in italian.   i thought this would be a cool way to make sure i continue to try to learn another language - of course when i get lost , i can always switch it back to english!

  • total STYLE

i am not one of those people... you know - one of those people who always looks totally put together and has a signature style.  i do know people like that, and i swear that our brides and GROOMS are all about style - they always look so great!!  so i am making an effort....

first, i am a What Not to Wear junky.  i LOVE this show!!  and as you know, i don't have a t.v.  here's the secret...  you can watch it right online!  i  have an entire season on my iPod - and now i watch each week when it goes online.

here's another website that i'm visiting a lot lately... totalbeauty.com - very cool.  they have all kinds of reviews and articles.  you can rate your favorite stuff and there are tips and new styles.  i'm such a 'classic' style person, i have a hard time trying trends.  but, my sister is very current, so i dip into her stuff every once in a while.

i'm so lost when it comes to this stuff!  i'm trying, though.  stacey and clinton say i need straight pants and fitted jackets, so i've been looking.  it takes a lot of trying on - which i HATE.  i have heard some nice comments at work, so maybe i'm doing something right.  now if only i didn't have to wear steel-toed shoes at work...

  • good EATS!

i've been eating out a bit lately.  i have to say that i prefer to eat at home, but i don't really have a well-functioning kitchen.  i've been planning the 're-model' for years and after getting my house back together after plastering, painting and floors in the rest of the house, the idea of ripping up another room is just gut wrenching!  not to metion that i need to save up for this big do-over.  my house is tiny and very old, crooked and unusual, and the kitchen is unusually large for such a small house and there is a ton of potential.  i want a kitchen that coordinates with it's cottage style.  i also want great lighting and new appliances and more than just a spruce up.  so it will have to wait a while longer, as it seems to keep getting more and more costly.  i go back and forth on keeping as much as i can (to cut cost) versus ripping out the whole thing and starting over (and just be done with it).  so... until i decide, i'll just try to keep saving and thinking and eating OUT!

    welcome

lately, we've been heading over to the Moon Twp. HOSS'S (here's the map).  This is just a nice family restaraunt.  the food is good, and the salad bar is always fresh, full and has lots of variety.  the thing about this place is the SERVICE!! it is absolutely AMAZING.  the first time i went i thought it was a fluke!!  everyone was sooooooooo nice!  then we went again, and again, everyone was soooooooooooo nice!!  i still thought it was a fluke.  so we went again - each time we went on a different day at a different time and this place is AMAZING!  the PEOPLE ARE OUTSTANDING!  i usually have the salad bar because there is so much on it and everything is great - but i have to say that their burger & fries are unreal!  i LOVE potatos and consider myself to be an expert on french fries - the fries are some of the best, hands down.  i prefer them to McDondald's - and that is saying a LOT.  AND they have all kinds of drinks!!!  i drink diet soda pop, and usually the chices are limited to 1.  at hoss's, i get diet dr. pepper.  no kidding - they have like 4 or 5 CHOICES!  if you haven't been here, or if you haven't been here in a while, take your time - the greeter will help you decide - they are so friendly.

anyway, if you are looking for a really nice place - kind of 'old school' - and not too expensive, you can get a great steak or chicken (or burger) with the MOST AMAZING SERVICE - EVER at Hoss's.  (by the way the bathrooms are immaculate - just another sign of a well-run business).  i really can't say enough about this particular place.  now, i haven't been to the other locations, but the one in MOON is just incredible.  i think everyone there should get a raise or at least a BIG Christmas bonus.  i always leave a fat tip - so if you go, do the same - these people earn it!

there was a glitch - the following post won't make much sense, but, i've removed the address, as it seems it was a hoax.

anyway, for the holidays, think of someone that could use some cheer and CHEER THEM!

  • A Christmas idea worth doing!

I recieved an email today from one of our fabulous brides...  Julie married Steve - what a stunning couple!!

    070929bellissima1414

i don't send Christmas cards, and here's why...

the last time i sent cards was about 23 years ago - OMG! when did i get that old???? - and i sent cards out to over 100 people.  at the time i was a very poor college student, so the cost seemed like a lot.  and the reason i don't send them any more is that even though i sent out so many cards, i still forgot people!!!  this, of course, made me feel terrible.  today, i know even more people, but have far fewer physical addresses for people, so to send out cards would be virtually impossible.

when you are not feeling well, it's awesome to get a card - let someone know you care.

    Thanks Julie!  Great idea!

    ~ciao for now~

  • did you miss me???

well....  life has been a little crazy.  i shall not bore you...  i'm back!  i'm going to try my best to keep closer tabs on my blog.  it seems as things go haywire, my blog gets lost.

FIRST - Brenda had a wonderful idea!  She handles our print orders and she wanted to donate a portion of our sales each month to a cause.  NOVEMBER was the American Cancer Society.  I think DECEMBER will also be the American Cancer Society, but check the LATEST WORK page of our website and you'll see where 10% of our print sales will be going.  SO! if you were thinking about ordering prints for Christmas, you'll also be making a donation!!  Brenda has the best ideas!  (ORDER NOW TO HAVE YOUR PRINTS FOR THE HOLIDAY!)  Rushing is expensive.

a few things to update you with...

the ad (mentioned below) went to print - and it looks really nice in the Knot magazine.  i think it stands out well - in a good way - and i've gotten some feedback from some people who didn't see it before.  it's so nice to hear that they think it looks good.  check it out in the Pittsburgh Knot magazine for Spring/Summer!!  there was one small change - instead of 'impeccable', i used the word 'exquisite' to describe album design...

i also got a new iPod!  as you may know (if you used to visit my blog) i LOVE iPods.  the new iPod touch is fabulous!!!  i did sell one of my collection to fund the investment.

    ipod_hero_touch_20070905

xander got a new coat and there is this adorable new place right near me to wash dogs!!  it's called Larry's Laundromutt and it's toooooo much fun to take your dog there to wash him.  i don't see a website, but you just stop in with your dog.  next time i go, i'll bring my camera and do a little video!  xander's coat is a shearling woolrich dog coat - and he looks too cute - again a picture is in order, as soon as i can!!    oh my gosh - look how little he was!!  this is his baby pic, he was just 3 pounds.... now he's 3 years old ~  and a big 11 pounds!

    all better after first bath

i also have a bunch of albums getting ready to release.  i figured, however, that since the print ad is now on the news stands, i'd feature Megan and Michael's album, since they are the couple in the ad...

    070818bellissima01569

this is a really beautiful book....  the graphic was custom created to match the pattern in their lovely programs, the color was inspired by the bridesmaids' dresses (a very rich chocolate), and this is one goregeous couple...just click HERE to ENJOY!  remember to adjust your speakers!!

and welcome back - i promise to be back tomorrow, as long as you stop by!

    :)

  • creating a print ad...

we have decided to expand our presence to print!  we have an ad in the Cavanagh's wedding planner - GET YOURS HERE! - and are really excited about that, and now we are thrilled to be going to the KNOT, too!  After all we were rated by real brides to be in this magazine!  We are still excited about that!

it's funny to make these kinds of decisions, as we hope that our clients continue to refer us to their friends and family.  we do feel that being able to establish a brand and presence gives us more value and supports those referrals. so, we have gone to print!!

this may help if you are trying to build an ad.... (especially if you are a photographer)

first, it is NOT easy!  i've been reading and exploring a LOT of design books.  as the 'album lady', design principles are really important.  there are actually RULES!  it's not as easy as it looks - hopefully, it looks easy, as that is a sign of good design.  easy on the eye, pleasing, and something draws you in.  for an ad, it needs to be eye-catching.  while the image is important, especially for photographers, the design layout also conveys an important message.  comparing the designs of MANY ad campaigns, there are certain elements that i'm drawn to, and that from a 'design and marketing principles' stand point, there are elements that work well.  Uncluttered, bold but elegant, STYLE, classic with an edge, and DIFFERENT.  as i page through books, everything looks the same... cluttered, hard to read, TOO much.  i was so tempted to put several images in the ad, and i think this is difficult for photographers - we want to show our work!  but, in the end ONE really great shot says so much!

then, there is the text, what to write?!?!   writing copy is another task.  write too much and no one reads it.  use the wrong font, and no one CAN read it!  and say the wrong thing and you risk appearing unapproachable, amateur or unprofessional.   i see a lot of claims in ads that aren't really true, or at least are unqualified.  claims such as, 'the best...', 'the first..', 'the most...', 'the ultimate...' - what is that?  the best according to whom?  i think this is kind of off-base, yet you do want to stress your strengths, concisely and simply, and honestly.  text is tough, if you are writing an ad, take your time and be sure your text is not cliché, uninspiring or misleading.

finally, SIMPLICITY.  i think this one word speaks volumes.  clean, simple, easy to read, with STYLE.  these are the elements of an effective ad.  remember, the idea is to appeal to someone enough to get them to contact you!  you need to stand out to be noticed, and once noticed, convey a likable message and finally provide the means that you are able to be contacted, and make that clearly readable.

after hours of debate and several different layouts, the final print ad includes a photo of Megan+Michael taken in front of a plain orange wall along a hallway at the Carnegie Museum.  unexpected, different, boldly set-off by the black background.  gorgeous bride and groom 'lost' in the moment, unaware of us there.  the pink sash of her dress is unique, too.  we do not use models, ever. our photos are only of real weddings, real people, real moments.  that is important to us - it's honest.  the text is simple and we are proud to let people know we are a KNOT 'best of weddings' pick.  it's a qualified claim.

so here you are... the final product.  easy... :)

i hope some of this is helpful if you are trying to come up with an ad.  if you need help, let me know - my fees are pretty low. :)
